CENTRIFUGAL CASTING:-

  • This is a special casting technique used to cast hollow cylindrical shaped objects. It produces the casting of high precision and good quality of surface finish and grain structure of the material.
  • It is very useful technique to produce the thin walled cylinder part. The required thickness can be obtained by the calculation or the analysis of the quantity of material to be used for the desired thickness.
  • The special feature of this process is that it do not need riser, runner, core, gating system etc. It can produce hollow shapes without using core.
  • Since the layers of the material forces to another layer at the walls of the mould and fill the small cavities if they occur. By this way it eliminates the defect of blow holes and also avoids the shrinkage of the material.
  • A large range of sizes can be casted. From very large length to very short length of the cylindrical shapes can be produced. Any diameter and thickness can be casted.
  • This process is only useful for the casting of hollow cylindrical shapes.
  • Higher dimensional accuracy, higher mechanical properties can be obtained.

PROCESS:-

  1. First of all, one need a full setup of the centrifugal casting. Which includes the cylindrical moulds.
  2. Cylindrical mould must be of rotating featured. When it will rotate about its axis, the liquid material will reach to the wall of the mould, centrifugally.
  3. In this process no other pattern will be used.
  4. Appropriate material will be supplied as per the requirement of the thickness of desired product.
  5. Then the material will be allowed to solidify.
  6. After that the desired product can be ejected from the mould after cooling.
  7. In the hollow cylindrical object the inner diameter may require the further machining for better surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
